750 AMSTERDAMMERTJES

To mark the 750th anniversary of Amsterdam, I created 750 Amsterdammertjes, a tribute to the city and its residents.

Each illustration of the iconic anti-parking bollard, known locally as the “Amsterdammertje”, is based on a unique story, inspired by the 750 stories collected for Amsterdam 750 (amsterdam750.nl/verhalen).

These stories explore places, memories, dreams, and the people who shape Amsterdam into what it is today. An homage to the city’s past, present, and future.

All 750 Amsterdammertjes have since found new homes. From the proceeds of the project, I donated €5,000 to the Dutch foundation Het Vergeten Kind, supporting children growing up in unsafe or unstable home environments.

The exhibition opened on October 27, 2025, at Sociëteit De Kring and was on view through November 21, 2025.

I am proud to share that an (authentic) Amsterdam bollard I painted has been officially included in the collection of the Amsterdam Museum.

This work was created following my exhibition of 750 Amsterdam bollards, developed in celebration of Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary. With the reopening of the Amsterdam Museum, the bollard will be given a permanent place within the city.
